  • Engineering Week visit from Eirgrid

Fifth class were very lucky to get the opportunity to have an engineers visit from Eirgrid to kick off Engineering Week.
We learned that Eirgrid develops , manages and operates the whole of Ireland’s electricity grid. We discussed what renewable and non renewable energy is and how beneficial renewable energy is for our environment. Some renewable energy sources are solar energy, wind energy and hydro energy if possible. We learned all about solar energy when we got our school solar panels fitted and today we learned the importance of wind power as a renewable energy source. Wind power, like other renewables sources provides electricity without burning any fuels or polluting the air. With that in mind, we got to design some of our own wind turbines. Take a look!
