  • Life Cycle of Butterfly

Almost a month ago, we ordered caterpillars online. They arrived to school and so began our journey of observing caterpillars growing and changing. We noticed how they were so small at first but within a few days, they were enormous and very hungry!! Eventually our caterpillars hung upside down and formed their chrysalis. We moved them to a new habitat and provided nectarine for when they would emerge as butterflies. We waited each day and watched their peaceful transformation. Finally when we arrived to school on Monday morning after the weekend, our butterflies were there to greet us. We named them Paul and Penny. We watched them flutter their wings and eat some food. Eventually it was time to release our babies into the world. Penny was in quite a rush to explore the world but Paul enjoyed a little attention and some of the boys and girls had the chance to hold him before he flew away. It was a lovely experience and we learned so much!
