In Room 9, we have been enthralled by the gorgeous weather conditions of the past two weeks. The natural habitats in the Inchicore area are thriving including the Oblates rose gardens and field areas, the local park land and the canal walkways. Many bird species have been busy bringing up their offspring and there are lots of fledglings taking to the air – baby birds learning how to be a bird! Lots of people are leaving corners of their gardens unmown to help insects that need to pollinate flowers. Even a balcony or terrace has so much potential. Richmond Barracks is on our doorstep and they have great ideas on how to use small, even tiny free spaces. Visit them!
Take time to savour nature in all its glory at this special, warm and welcoming time of year.
Back to Room 9! We planted some sunflower seeds a month ago. These were like little tiny babies that needed warmth and nurture (soil, water, sunlight and care). First they became seedlings, a bit like toddlers that need lots of love and support, but then they began to grow and grow until they outgrew their indoor room habitat (a bit like noisy and argumentative teenagers!) A couple of our wonderful pupils tracked their growth, minded them, until finally bringing them home to plant outdoors to become the adult flowers that they are striving to become – with help along the way. Hey, that sounds a lot like human growth! Well done to the great effort involved and may these sunflower plants do very well in life.
